RESEARCH

Brief summary of research over the last five years

This project is focused on the ‘Body of Knowledge’ of the discipline of urbanism, and on the question in what sense this body of knowledge is still relevant for present-day and future assignments and challenges concerning  urban development.

2.Project The Urban Block. The project focuses on the block as the basic component of the urban ground-plan, and puts forward the relation between urban design and architecture. The project has been supported by the municipalities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

3.Project Delta-Urbanism focuses on the way  territorial conditions in delta- areas have to be taken into account in  urban design and urban planning. The research pays especially attention to the borders of land and water and to the question how the infrastructure of water-management can be integrated in the urban fabric.

4.Project Small Urban Settlements. Focus on continuity and changes in spatial structures of small settlements, analysis of perspectives of small urban settlements in the future.
