Maarten Jan Hoekstra, Ir. M.J.

Researcher and teacher

MaartenJan Hoekstra is a researcher and teacher at the Chair of Urban Compositions at the Faculty of Architecture of the Delft University of Technology. Within the ULAB research program his main tasks are the coordination of the research 'The core of urbanism in the perspective of the twentyfirst century' and his PhD research 'The language of the city. 100 years of urbanistic notions'. Besides he is repsonsible for the lecture series 'Urbanistic basic notions 2' in the BSc2, and he is teaching in several design studios (BSc and MSc). He is also a supervisor of graduation students in urbanism and a member of the Advisory board of Polis, Platform for Urbanism.

Education

  • Master of Arts in Dutch linguistics en literature, graduated in Dutch linguistics, specialisation Etymology, Universiteit Leiden and Universiteit van Amsterdam (1997-2005)
  • Master of Science in Architecture, graduated in Architecture and Urbanism, Delft University of Technology (1993-1999)

The design of the city plan (history, typology, morphology), the design of the public space (history, typology, materialisation), urbanistic rules for architecture, the program of the city and the terminology of the discipline of urbanism.
