Chair of Environmental Design
Environmental sustainability is dealing with aspects like water, energy, traffic, materials and food. In the field of ‘environmental technology and design’ new techniques, methods and design solutions are developed to create an urban environment that facilitates durable health and biodiversity.
The mission of the new chair is combining proven and promising techniques and methods in resilient designs. The chair will research by design the optimum balance between human needs, the technical possibilities and the conditions of the ecological system. The concept of transformation and transition by retrofitting and regeneration forms the sustainable design focus in the existing urban fabric where designers are faced the most complex challenges and where the conflicts between People, Planet and Prosperity will be at their fiercest. The concept of (sustainable) occupation strategies is the accompanying design angle of the new chair. Design and planning is directed on (indirectly) guiding urbanisation processes that include integrated sustainable perspectives for healthy configurations of the extended urban fabric.
